Pune Will Host the Country’s First-Ever ‘Indian Doctors Olympics’ Tournament

In Pune, the Young Doctors League (YDL) has organized the first ‘Indian Doctors Olympics’. This tournament involved the participation of more than 1500 doctors from all over India. It will be held in Pune from November 30 to December 3, 2023. It consists of a total of 11 sports, both team-based and individual.

While giving more information about this Olympic competition in the press conference, the Chairman of the 'Indian Doctors Olympics' (IDO) Committee, Dr. Nachiket Mahindrakar, and Secretary, Dr. Ameet Dravid, said that ‘Indian Doctor Olympics’ is a remarkable sporting extravaganza that unites doctors from all corners of the country in a spirit of friendly competition and wellness.

The organizing committee has been constituted under the guidance of Dr. Nachiket Mahindrakar, Chairman, and Dr. Ameet Dravid, Secretary, for the systematic planning of the event. The committee, comprised of Dr. Nitin Gadkari, Dr. Sandeep Patil, Dr. Rahul Patil, Dr. Ankush Bhandari, Dr. Vaibhav Dudhat, and a team of more than 200 doctors, will supervise the management of the tournament.

The competition will be held in Pune at various places, such as Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Deccan Gymkhana Club, Vision Academy Ground Sinhagad Road, Scale Up Academy Ground Warje, Shinde High School Sahakarnagar, and DSK Star Cricket Academy Ground Dhayari.

Sports events like lawn tennis, table tennis, carrom, and badminton will be categorized into men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. Athletics will involve 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, relay race, long jump, and shot put for men and women, respectively. Women's and men's freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke individual and relay events will be organized for swimming. These competitions will be organized in the age group categories of below 35 years, 35 to below 50 years, 50 to 60 years, and above 60 years.

In the team event, women's and men's tennis ball cricket, 6-a-side men's box football, men's volleyball, and women's throw ball will be arranged.

Pune has the honor and distinction to witness this country’s first ‘Indian Doctors Olympics' competition. Doctor players from various states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu will participate in the competition. Along with Pune, players from Mumbai, Thane, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Nashik, Solapur, Beed, Latur, Aurangabad, Konkan, Jalgaon, Dhule, Amravati, and Nagpur districts will participate in this first-of-a-kind, pan-national doctor sports event, Dr. Ameet Dravid said.

This national event has been sponsored by the Serum Institute of India, Pune, and co-sponsored by Assure Skin and Laser Clinic, Aurobindo Pharma, Ruby Hall Clinic, Medicover Hospital, Skin and Surgery International, Noble Hospitals, Research Centre, and Poona Diagnostic Services. The main purpose of the ‘Indian Doctors’ Olympics—Sports, Skills, and Saving Lives—is to showcase the skills, dedication, and qualities of doctors in various team and individual sports.
