I am a final-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Pharmacy in Mahagaon, affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India.

What’s the best part of your profession? What made you choose this profession?

A

It has provided me with numerous skills that I wasn't aware I possessed. As pharmacists, we instigate change in people's lives. I thoroughly enjoy dedicating time to care for individuals. Patients present with various conditions and issues daily, and our role is to adapt to the situation. We delve into the study of medicines, their effects on the body, and the interactions between different medications. It is our responsibility to ensure that the medicines used are clinically safe and effective. Everything we do should contribute to health. I firmly believe that pursuing a career in pharmacy will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of people.

Are you happy/satisfied with the current scenario of pharmacy education in India?

A

Pharmacy education is one of the most in-demand skills in India and is sought after by many seeking to make a mark in the pharmaceutical industry. The demand for pharmacy graduates is increasing with the growing awareness of the importance of medical and healthcare services and the importance of medicines in providing those services. Yes, I'm truly happy with the scenario in India.

What can be done to improve education and the profession in this sector?

A

According to me, enhancing operations with technology is one of the best ways to improve education and the profession in this sector.

1. Pharmacy automation, which includes electronic prescriptions.

2. Imaging systems, which include automated pharmacy records.

3. Dispensing technology, which automates the counting and packaging steps.

What are some fun facts about pharmacy that you want the readers to know?

A

Coca-Cola was invented by a pharmacist named John Pemberton. He carried the jug of the new product down the street to Jacob's Pharmacy, where it was sampled, pronounced "excellent," and placed on sale for 5 cents a glass as a soda fountain drink.

What do you think about current industry / job scenario?

A

The pharmacy profession has opened many doors in sales, marketing, research and development, manufacturing, quality control, and education. It spans the pharmaceutical industry, encompassing a wide range of activities from research and development to manufacturing, quality control, packaging, and quality assurance. Opportunities also abound in various practice settings, including hospitals and community (retail pharmacy), academics, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, clinical data management, and clinical research.

What are the challenges that you face in your day-to-day life?

A
  • Managing increased workloads due to a growing demand for their services.

  • Ensuring accurate and efficient prescription dispensing and management.

  • Addressing patient concerns and providing comprehensive medication counseling.

What is the salary one can expect after completing D. Pharm/B. Pharm/M. Pharm. as a fresher?

A

The starting salary of a pharmacist in a pharmaceutical company is around INR 20,000–70,000 per month, depending on the profile of the company. To work in the government sector, one has to clear competitive exams like UPSC, UPSEE, Railway Pharmacist, NHM, etc.

What are your views on the EXIT exam for getting registered as a pharmacist?

A

In my opinion, the EXIT exam is necessary, considering that the pharmacy profession involves medicines that play a crucial role in promoting the health and well-being of individuals.

Do you think pharmacists are underpaid?

A

No, pharmacists are never unpaid; they are offered revenue for their work and dedication toward health.

Is there a healthy work-life balance in your profession?

A

Definitely, yes. It has a great scope to deal with the career options with the specific work-life balance in the industrial area, the IT sector, and as a research scientist too.

Do you need to work overtime sometimes? If so, are you paid accordingly or not?

A

Yes, there are times when we need to work overtime, and the likelihood is that we will be compensated for it.

Do you like reading? What was the last thing you read?

A

Yes, my favorite thing about reading a good book is when I forget that I am reading it. I love reading novels because I feel like I am imagining the scenario; I hear voices instead of reading them, and I feel emotions instead of imagining them. The latest novels I read were Gulliver's Travels, Anne Frank, and Helen Keller.

What is your favorite dish?

A

My favorite dish is all the Indian cuisine that we have, especially the spicy ones like chole bhature, pav bhaji, and panipuri.

What’s one thing that people are generally surprised to find out about you?

A

I studied in a Marathi-medium school. I was unable to frame the sentences and communicate in English. I never thought I would achieve skills like stage daring, communication, team leadership, etc.

A

Novel drug delivery systems, pharmacology, and everything that is related to chemistry.

A

When Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Pharmacy selected me as the FIRST FEMALE GENERAL SECRETARY IN THE HISTORY OF 12 YEARS, it was a proud moment for me.

Look at the normal processes of nature, like moving sky, running water, etc

I would have become a pilot.
